The island's attorney general, Walter Wannenburgh has been sworn in during a ceremony at Government House.
His Warrant of Appointment was presented by the Lieutenant Governor, Sir John Lorimer.
The attorney general is appointed by the Crown although the salary is paid by Manx taxpayers.
Mr Wannenburgh will now act as the legal adviser to the Lieutenant Governor, the Council of Ministers, Government departments and statutory boards.
He will also attend sittings of Tynwald and the Legislative Council.
Mr Wannenburgh became Acting Attorney General earlier this year following the death of John Quinn.
