The Island's Abortion Reform Bill passed its first reading in the Legislative Council.
Dr Alex Allinson's bill was put before LegCo to scrutinize for the first time yesterday.
MLC Jane Poole-Wilson supported the motion, saying changes to the Island's abortion legislation are 'long overdue'.
However, Lord Bishop Peter Eagles said while the bill protects mothers, it doesn't protect an unborn child.
MLC Bill Henderson will steer the bill through LegCo.
