A rainy Tynwald Day to get underway at 9.45am

This years special guests will be the members of the crew of the space shuttle Discovery.

It’s Tynwald Day on the Isle of Man today with the traditional ceremony and celebrations planned at St John’s.

The day will get underway at 9.45am when a procession involving a military band and school children will make their way towards Tynwald Hill.

There will also be the usual RAF aircraft flypast; this years special guests will be the members of the crew of the space shuttle Discovery.

During the proceedings the public will have their chance to submit their petitions for redress of grievance to the court.

The tradition of Tynwald Day's outdoor ceremony is one that goes back over 1,000 years on the Island.
