A mother in her 40s has today been sentenced to 9 months in prison for the abduction of her son.
Miss A took her then 7 year old son Boy A to Canada to start a new life, in June of last year.
She went against court orders preventing her from doing so as her son was imminently about to be taken into care.
Miss A denied the allegations throughout the trial saying she took her son amid concerns for his wellbeing and safety at the hands of his father.
Allegations of sexual abuse against his father were unproven in court.
Deemster Birkett said ultimately Miss A had no defence to justify her not guilty plea.
We spoke to some of Miss A's friends, one described the outcome as 'horrifying' with another saying they 'couldn't believe the courts could be so harsh.'
In terms of the knock ons the ruling will have on her son they said 'it can only cause further confusion for him'.
