The government says its salary costs for workers have risen by more than 36 per cent in the last five years, while the number of people working for it has risen by just over eight per cent.
Chief Minister Alf Cannan gave the figures in response to a question for written reply from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.
She asked for the costs and size of each department's workforce for each of the last five years.
Mr Cannan said in 2021, 7,877 government workers earned just over £289 million - while last year 8,554 earned just under £394 million.
