A plane which crashed on the Island 79 years ago today has been remembered with a memorial service.
On April 23 1945, an American B-24 Bomber plane carrying 31 men was on its way to Northern Ireland, where military ground crew were to take some leave.
Sadly, the plane crashed close to North Barrule and all men on board perished.
The memorial plaque dedicated to the men was funded by Maughold Parish Commissioners and each year since 1995 there has been a memorial in conjunction with the Manx Aviation Preservation Society.
