Police carried out their first roadside checkpoint last night, as part of 'Operation Uplift'.
In Crosby, officers stopped and examined 27 vehicles.
18 motorists were issued defect notices for minor faults, while one driver received points and a fine for having a dangerously worn tyre.
The campaign is to make sure cars are roadworthy over the colder, darker months, with more police planning more stops in the coming weeks.
