£600 destined for RNLI stolen in Port St Mary

Port St Mary Lifeboat Station

Police are investigating after £600 of charity money was stolen from a van parked outside the Lifeboat Station in Port St Mary.

The money was taken from the passenger seat of the white Peugeot Expert van which was parked on Lime Street between 9.30am and 11.30am on Monday.

The owner of the van had been given £540 in cash and a cheque for £60 from guests at his birthday party and was due to donate it to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

PC Adrian Brooks from Port Erin Police Station said any incidents of this kind were not acceptable but this was made worse by the fact the money was destined for charity.

He added that the money had been given in good faith and people did not donate it to line the pockets of a thief.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Port Erin Police Station on 832222.
