The Island’s vaccination programme will be extended to 5-11 year olds in high risk groups.
Following the latest advice from the Joint Commission on Vaccination and Immunisation, young people aged 5-11 who are in a clinical risk group or who are a household contact of someone who is immunosuppressed will be offered two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
Government have confirmed that more information on when this rollout of jabs will begin will be given in the New Year.
Health Minister Lawrie Hooper says, whilst Covid is typically very mild in most young children, there is a higher risk of sever illness or hospitalisation for those with underlying conditions, and two doses will provide vital protection against this.
