The Isle of Man will get a 4G network by July next year.
The Communications Commission has licensed both Manx Telecom and Sure to provide the fourth generation service.
Both providers have paid £150,000 to apply for a licence and say a service will launch no later than the summer of 2014.
The 4G network will provide coverage to at least 95 per cent of the Island's population within two years of it being launched.
