£48m absence cost slammed by senior minister

A senior minister has slammed figures released this week, which revealed the extensive cost of work absences in government over the past four years.

On Tuesday the Chief Minister confirmed this had cost the taxpayer a staggering £48million.

Speaking to 3FM, Treasury Minister Eddie Teare said absences from work had always been something he tackled throughout his various roles in government.

He outlined what he felt was the best way to reduce this cost and prevent extensive sick leave from people working within government positions (see audio).
