The Department of Education and Children says it spent more than £3,600 of taxpayer's money to send its minister and chief executive to the Island Games.
A freedom of information request asked for the total costs of sending Graham Cregeen MHK and Ronald Barr to Gotland in Sweden.
The department says it spent £1,430 on flights and £2,147 on accommodation for the eight-day trip.
In its answer, it also says both can claim £38 per day for meals under government rules.
