£24,000 for victims of Syria crisis

The Overseas Aid Committee has agreed to donate more than £24,000 to help those affected by unrest in Syria.

Government has agreed to donate the money to the British Red Cross and Red International following violent political unrest.

Thousands of people have been killed or injured and many have been displaced from their homes after crossing the Syrian border with Jordan.

It’s estimated that the money donated will help around 4,500 people and will provide an ambulance service, first aid kits, health care clinics and food and blankets.

The Overseas Aid Committee has also given an additional £40,000 to Oxfam to help refugees in  South Sudan.
