Next year's International Island Games have been postponed.
The event, which was originally due to take place in Guernsey in July 2021 has been called off by the International Island Games Association (IIGA) following the organisation's virtual Annual General Meeting held last Saturday (September 26).
Chair of the IIGA, Jorgen Pettersson, says the decision was made based on the best medical advice possible and on views given by Member Islands in a recent survey, adding the continued restrictions around the global Covid-19 pandemic 'continue to make planning forward very very difficult and even impossible'.
The festival, held every two years, sees small Islands from across the globe take part - around 3,500 competitors and officials had been due to be involved.
No new date has yet been set for the occasion - the next confirmed games are due to take place in Orkney in 2023.
