Around 130 parking spaces on Douglas Promenade are set to disappear once refurbishment work there is complete.
Officials running the programme say the new design philosophy has been approved 'for the betterment of all users'.
Construction along the 3-kilometre stretch began in November last year and is expected to take around two years to finish.
The proposed facilities - once finished - would include 543 spaces in total, 17 bus stops and 33 taxi spaces over seven ranks.
