Steam Packet vessel to be equipped with 'leading safety' technology

A new business partnership means the new Steam Packet vessel will be equipped with leading safety technology.

The Steam Packet Company says the new Manxman craft will be fitted with technology systems developed by NAPA.

The NAPA Emergency Computer assesses the vulnerability of an intact ship as well as its survivability in case of a flooding emergency and the NAPA Loading Computer optimises vessel load while minimising stress and safety risk.

Steam Packet Chief Executive, Mark Woodward, says: "We are proud to be recognised as a ferry operator raising standards in the maritime sector.

"The addition of NAPA’s software to better monitor conditions, mitigate risk and enhance ship-shore communication will be increasingly important to the safety of our crew and passengers."

The Manxman, which is being built at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea is due to replace the Ben-my-Chree in 2023.

The NAPA software is used by numerous major cruise lines including Royal Carribean, Virgin Voyages and Viking Ocean Cruises.
