8,000 Manx Utilities smart meters will be installed across the Island.
Over the next four years - 50,000 meters in businesses and homes will be replaced.
Manx Utilities say the wireless network needed has been commissioned and the first fifteen-thousand meters have been made.
Meters in the North of the Island will be replaced first and are due to be rolled out in June.
The idea is to replace the now 'old fashioned' meters which have to be read by a meter reader, cut waste and promote effiency.
