The Manx Utilities Authority says it wants to buy a spare undersea fibreoptic cable.
Its subsidiary, the Manx Cable Company Limited, wants a one-kilometre length of cable in case the existing link fails.
It says the spare cable would be spliced to the existing cable if repairs need to be made.
The authority is now inviting suppliers and manufacturers to contact it about the optimum length of cable which could be supplied.
