'We're working to make sure schools can reopen safely'

Government is making sure schools and nurseries have the right facilities, staff and safety measures to reopen safely from next week.

That's according to Education, Sport & Culture Minister, Dr Alex Allinson MHK, after it was announced in late May schools would be able to return from June 15 with children currently attending a hub allowed to return to their own school two days later.

From Monday, June 22, children in years two, six, 10 and 12 will be the first year groups to return to their schools full-time, although attendance will be on a voluntary basis until September.

Dr Allinson adds any decision to increase the number of pupils attending schools will be done in a staged process based on medical advice going forward.

There is currently no fixed date for the return of all children but this is under constant review.
