Hub children can return to own schools

Children classed as vulnerable or those of key workers are being allowed to return to their own schools from today.

It's the next part of the phased return for primary and secondary institutions across the Island after sites re-opened on Monday to allow staff to make preparations.

Whilst schools largely closed on March 23 in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, 14 'hub schools' have been able to provide education for children in those categories since that date.

It's currently hoped all children will be able to head back to classrooms full time from next Monday (June 22) but this would be on a voluntary basis until September.

Meanwhile, following the announcements earlier this week of all restrictions on social distancing and gatherings being lifted across the Isle of Man, Chief Minister, Howard Quayle MHK, confirmed there will be no social distancing measures in place at schools when they re-open.

However, officials say all schools have been deep cleaned and risk assessments undertaken, government staff have been redeployed to provide more frequent cleaning and extra hand washing facilities have been installed.
