Launch of the 'Herbert Protocol' in conjunction with the Admiral Nurses and 'Forget Me Not' Charity

Hello,
It is a Police initiative working with 2 Island charities to locate and return home safely, those members of community who suffer with the Dementia.

The ‘Herbert Protocol’ is used by UK police forces up and down the country and is a straight forward process. A comprehensive form is completed about the person by their family or carer and they keep a copy of this. The form details places/addresses the person is familiar with or remembers and a recent photograph. The form is also sent to the Police and uploaded to our system. Should the person go missing we have immediate information to send officers to locate the person safe and well and return them home. It also assists families/carer’s when they need to remember all the different information about the person; it is already there on a form for us.

We reached out to the Admiral Nurses and the Forget Me Not Charity and we have been working together for the past few months to get this off the ground. The Charity has funded wrist bands and fobs for patients to wear, so if they become confused or lost, a QR code can be scanned by mobile phone and by any member of the public and a next of kin contact details are seen and can be contacted to come a collect the patient. The initiative has been very welcomed by both charities who have wanted this for some time.

We are launching the Herbert Protocol in Strand Street on Tuesday 1st July between 11am-2pm (the space in front of M&S/IOM Bank) and we would like to invite you down to the event and hope that you could assist in publicising this for us.
I look forward to hearing from you
