CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL
St George’s with All Saints Douglas is holding a Christmas Tree Festival in the Church from 2nd to 25th December. Seventeen organisations and companies have come together to celebrate Christmas in this way. The windows of the Church are filled with beautifully decorated trees, some of them in a conventional way and others in innovative ways. The Attorney-General’s Department has a tree of law books. The church bell-ringers have their traditional bell-pulls arranged as a tree.
The Festival is open to all from 11.30a.m. to 4.00p.m. each day. Festive refreshments will be served during the week 2nd to 7th December. The trees are decorated by each organisation to showcase their activities. There is to be a special launch service held at 6.00p.m. on Advent Sunday 1 December to which all are welcome. There are also the many concerts and carol services to enjoy in the approach to Christmas. Last year over five thousand people came through the Church at this time
Admission to the Festival is free. It is being held to support the work of Graih the Manx charity which cares for the homeless. Graih provides safety and security through a free drop-in centre for; food, drinks, clothing, bedding and showers as well as an emergency overnight shelter. All donations collected at the Festival will be given to Graih to help people here in the Island who have real need. The Church hopes that people coming to enjoy the Festival will give generously to Graih’s vital and caring work.
