Three children taken to hospital after fire tears through three-storey block of flats in Enfield

Three children have been taken to hospital after a fire tore through a three-storey block of flats in north London.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were mobilised to tackle the blaze in Maybury Close, Enfield, after the alarm was raised on Monday morning.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the youngsters were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

The fire has since been brought under control, but a small part of the roof and second floor remains alight.

Two 32m turntable ladders are being used as water towers to help extinguish the flames from height.

The LFB's drone team is also in attendance to provide an aerial view of the blaze.

The LFB said it received the first of 16 calls about the fire at 5.19am, with crews deployed from Enfield, Edmonton, Chingford, Tottenham, Woodford and Southgate fire stations.

Two engines from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were also sent to the fire.

The blaze was brought under control by 8.06am.

The A10 into Hoe Lane has been closed, with drivers urged to avoid the area due to the significant traffic disruption.

In a statement, LFB said: "The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police service."
