Boy, 6, dies after being hit by car in Cheshire - as police make drug driving arrest

A six-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Cheshire - with a driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

A collision between a child and a black Infiniti FX30D in Anchor Drive, Ellesmere Port, was reported to police at around 11.40am on Sunday.

Police and paramedics met the boy and his family en-route to hospital, near to Whitby Sports and Social Club, before taking him to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

But the boy died in hospital from his injuries, Cheshire Police said.

A 48-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing a death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, police said.

He has been released on bail.

Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with video footage to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe said: "This was a tragic incident in which a young child lost his life, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

"As part of our investigation, we're keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the initial collision on Anchor Drive, or anyone with any video footage of the incident.

"I'd also like to hear from anyone who was present when the child was later treated near to Whitby Sports and Social Club."

The boy's family are being supported by specialist officers.
