Curragh's Wildlife Park is encouraging people to donate towards saving penguins from extinction on World Penguin Day.
Based in Ballaugh, the park says its hatched 26 Humboldt penguin chicks in the last five years, with 23 moving on to three other zoos as part of an ex-situ breeding programme, and three have remained at the park.
They said Humboldts are classed as vulnerable to extinction - warming seas from climate change, over fishing, lack of nest site protection, pollution, mining and other human activities are all putting pressure on this species
The Curraghs Wildlife Park fund has just given another donation of £4,000 this year towards the Sphenisco Charity, helping to monitor and protect Humboldt Penguins in Chile and Peru.
