Three urgent oral questions have been tabled for next week's Tynwald sitting on the topic of Tesco's proposed Shoprite takeover.
'Unsurprisingly the recurring theme is the implications for local suppliers, who have enjoyed a consistent supply chain with Shoprite, that has been a significant revenue stream.
There is now great uncertainty as to whether Tesco will adapt and welcome local suppliers.
Douglas North MHK David Ashford will seek to find out when government was first informed of the merger, and why aspects of the Competition Act 2021 were seemingly not considered.
The Chief Minister will be asked by Jason Moorhouse MHK about the implications the takeover will have on local producers, current employees and customer choice.
Douglas South MHK Claire Christian will also ask The Chief Minister what implications will be to small local businesses if there are now set to be 10 Tesco stores across the Island.
The sitting will get underway at 10am next Tuesday.
