The Infrastructure Minister has launched a discussion on the future of local service provision.
Minister Gawne wants to know if there is a willingness among local authorities to take on some of the roles currently provided by central government.
His proposals would see things like hedge cutting, street sweeping and public toilet provision transferred to the local authorities.
It has been confirmed that any transfer of services would not result in a significant burden to ratepayers as costs would be offset by freezing the proposed rise in waste disposal costs.
