'Totally amoral' heroin dealer jailed for five years

Douglas Courthouse

A drug dealer from Liverpool who sold heroin on the Isle of Man so that he could buy "nice clothes and trainers" has been jailed for five years.

27-year-old John Slater was told he had a "totally amoral attitude" to what he was doing as he was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse last week.

He was arrested by police on August 10th in Douglas - a subsequent drug search recovered 23 wraps of heroin, with a street value of more than £250, hidden in his buttocks.

Officers who searched the property he resided at in Onchan, with his pregnant girlfriend, found another 170 wraps of heroin - worth over £3,300 - hidden in the cereal cupboard.

The court heard Slater -who admitted four charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act and one of concealing criminal property - was being paid to sell the drugs on behalf of someone in England.

His advocate described Slater's involvement in drug dealing as a "terrible life decision" - sentencing him Deemster Mongtomerie said he'd "deprived himself" of credit by failing to name his supplier.

He sentenced Slater to five years and four months in prison - a decision on whether an exclusion order will be implemented will be made at the end of the month.
