The Island's Home Affairs Minister says it's wrong people end up with a criminal record after being caught for possession of cannabis.
Bill Malarkey gave oral evidence to the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee earlier this week.
He says crime was up by 11 per cent last year and of that total, eight per cent was for possessing the class B drug.
Mr Malarkey says it's time to discuss cannabis within government.
