Teaching union asks candidates to sign education pledge

A teaching union is calling on general election candidates to sign a manifesto pledge in support of the Island's education system.

The National Association of Head Teachers says it wants the next House of Keys to tackle four main priorities: ensuring every child is ready to learn and supported, tackling workload and the education workforce, fair funding, and building trust with school leaders.

The organisation says so far 10 candidates have backed its manifesto.

And it adds MHKs elected in September will need to solve the Island's education problems - including child poverty, staff recruitment and unfit buildings.
