The government says students will be able to apply for support grants online next year - after the system broke down.
In the House of Keys, Education Minister Graham Cregeen revealed the system was due to be in place for students going to university this year.
He was responding to a question for written answer from Middle MHK Bill Shimmins about the annual application procedure.
Mr Cregeen said teething troubles meant delays in processing the applications, but next year the system should work smoothly.
