Rob Callister says he will not stand for Chief Minister after failing to secure enough support from the new House of Keys.
On Facebook, the MHK says he had spent the past week sharing his vision and policy proposals with businesses, charities and constituents.
Mr Callister says he is disappointed but respects the democratic process, adding his proposals focused on public services, housing, economic growth, connectivity and government reform.
He says he will continue working on behalf of constituents from the backbenches, through committee work or in any other role.
