Fenella Bridge To Have Review Into Failings
The Department of Infrastructure have commissioned an independent review into the ongoing problem with Fenella Bridge in Peel.
Despite having the problematic ring bearings replaced recently, in just under a month the replacements are already showing signs of serious deterioration.
The bridge was built in 2006 at a major cost with a guarantee that it would last for a lifetime.
It’s feared the problems to the bridge could be as a result of a design flaw, with a consulting engineer operating to identify the problem.
Whilst the review is happening a number of precautions are in place, primarily the number of times that the bridge is operated each day.
It will be still be in operation for passing boats, on each occasion of opening, the bridge may remain open for up to 30 minutes.
