Reprimanded candidate hits back at data protection laws

A prospective election candidate has hit back after he was given a reprimand by the Island's information commissioner.

Oliver Lockwood, who's standing in Onchan, published a statement on Facebook earlier today.

He says he'd used personal data of a constituent from the electoral register to contact them with a view to forming a personal relationship.

And he says the Island's data protection laws show "regulatory overreach", adding he doesn't feel their intent is to prevent people forming such relationships.
