The Probation and Prison Services have formulated a new approach to dealing with offenders on the Island.
Plans are in process to integrate the work of the Probation and Prison Services to create a new joint agency.
Their main tasks will be to formulate ways to deter repeat offending, achieving greater efficiencies and improving outcomes for both victims and offenders.
With the divisions joining together it’s hoped they will be better placed to tackle repeat offending, which is a reoccurring problem on the Island.
The catalyst for the change was the retirement of the Island’s Chief Probation Officer David Sellick, who had held the post since 1991.
The new look service will come into force in April of this year and at present it's anticipated that the merging will not lead to any job losses.
