The constabulary is asking people to be vigilant following reports of cold calling.
People are apparently calling looking for odd jobs, particularly in the area of West Douglas.
Police say to be aware that leaflets and price lists can be posted through your door, but nobody is allowed to personally solicit work by talking to you at your address.
Officers add that it has been known for more vulnerable residents and home owners to be targeted, and ask that people look out for their neighbours.
If anyone comes into contact with a cold caller they're asked to get in touch with the Office of Fair Trading on 686500.
