A man who went on an 11-month crime spree will spend two years on probation and banned from licensed premises.
Kieran Michael Cain of Victoria Road in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood at Douglas Courthouse.
The 25 year old was found to have committed nine offences between August 2022 and July last year in a special hearing after being found unfit to stand trial.
He was convicted of three counts of theft, two of assault and criminal damage and one each of being drunk in public and possessing cannabis.
The court heard he’d drunkenly smashed a fishtank worth £1,800 after assaulting its owner, caused almost £200 worth of damage to a car, and repeatedly stolen bottles of beer from shops.
Mrs Braidwood told him his offences stemmed from drinking, and said he already owed £1,500 in unpaid fines, court costs and compensation.
But after hearing he’d spent almost six months on remand, she placed him on probation for two years and banned him from entering on-licensed premises.
He was also ordered to pay £2,442 in compensation to his victims from his benefits at the rate of £20 per week.
