Money Raised Goes on Paying Rates and Maintaining Dormant Prison
The total amount raised in the recent Victoria Road Prison Auction stands at just over £8,500 from the sale of artefacts that were used when the building was a functioning prison.
Just over £5,300 was raised from the sale on the sale, with an additional three and a half thousand being paid for the remaining contents for a Scottish art project.
The money raised will go towards the rates and running costs of the now dormant prison whilst a new use for it is decided upon.
The top price paid for an item was £1,300 for a generator, whilst someone managed to pick up 3 high fi systems for just £2.
Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw has said ideally he’d like to see the building demolished to maximise the value of the prime two acre site in the capital.
