The principal at the Isle of Man College has been appointed as chief executive at the Department of Education and Children.
Professor Ronald Bar will take over from Stuart Dobson who is retiring at the end of August.
The professor will be responsible for the Island’s 38 schools plus the department’s workforce of over 2,000.
Mr Dobson had been in the post since January 2011.
