Police issue social media warning for active cases

The police are issuing a strong warning to the public that any information posted on social media websites regarding investigations can lead to legal ramifications.

This comes after individuals were found to be publishing names and unconfirmed details about ongoing cases.

Yesterday it was reported that a man had allegedly approached a six-year-old child in Douglas earlier this week.

The police were quick to confirm that there had been no increase in this kind of incident in the area or anywhere in the Island.

However, people directly involved in the case have publicly started to publish information in stark contrast to this and speculate who may be involved.

Inspector Derek Flint told 3FM people must be careful what they publish online (see audio).
