Peter Karran has been sacked as Education and Children Minister following yesterday’s objection to the government’s new £24million investment in the future of the Island's film industry.
The Chief Minister confirmed he had fired Mr Karran because the Liberal Vannin leader was ‘no longer able to accept the responsibilities that go with the office of minister’.
Allan Bell said Mr Karran had previously agreed to the new proposal in Council.
The Chief Minister said this was not a decision he’d taken lightly but added that Government does have well established rules on the collective responsibility of ministers, and it was his job to ensure those rules are applied consistently and fairly.
He said that Peter Karran had worked hard in his position as minister and it was regretful that it had ended in this way.
