Choosing to end your own life many mean a hefty private medical bill, according to a Tynwald committee.
A five-person committee chaired by North Douglas MHK David Ashford has published its report into the proposed assisted dying laws.
In it, it says professional fees and charges as well as the cost of unlicensed medicines would mean a cost to government - which would be up to patients to pay.
The committee says it might be appropriate to make the process unavailable as a government-funded service.
