Passengers travelling through Heysham to and from the Isle of Man could soon have a shorter journey.
The green-light has been given for a new link road which will link the port with the M6.
The Steam Packet Company is welcoming the news saying it will vastly improve transport links and remove the need for people to travel through Lancaster.
Construction of the road is expected to start this summer, following approval from the UK Secretary of State for Transport, and is scheduled to open to traffic in 2015.
The Steam Packet says it has been lobbying for a road link for some time, alongside the port owner Peel Ports, as it will mean a quicker drive to and from the M6 for passengers and freight customers.
