Police say 67 per cent of recent burglaries could have been prevented if people had taken simple security measures.
In addition they say statistics show 41 per cent of thefts could also have been stopped.
Officers are now advising people to think more carefully about locking their doors and windows and securing valuable items or placing them out of sight.
