No prosecutions have been brought against parents for allowing their children to be absent from school without permission.
Statistics released by the Department of Education and Children this week show there were 24,175 sessions of unauthorised absence for the academic year 2015/2016.
A session is counted as either a morning or afternoon away from school.
However 11 fixed penalty notices were handed out - all of which were paid.
