Surveillance laws from the UK, dubbed "the Snooper's Charter", won't be brought in on the Isle of Man.
Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas told Tynwald this week the UK legislation could be extended to the Island if needed.
But he said there were no plans to do so and current surveillance laws would be updated instead.
Mr Thomas said the subject of who can be spied on by who - and under what circumstances - is bound to create debate:
Manx Language Festival to be held next week
Manxman sailings in doubt from tomorrow
Car falls down steep bank on Mountain Road
Panic over - Mcdonald's reopens at 11am tomorrow
Police say beat it to cars illegally parked during MJ tribute act
No dedicated prostate cancer screening programme, despite over 1,200 referrals
Minister says GP waiting times have improved, but delays still impact A&E
