No 'special inspections' have been carried out at schools by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture in the last five years.
That's according to Minister Graham Cregeen in the House of Keys this week, who added the department does have the power to carry out such inspections in rare cases.
He went on to say schools are required to undertake on-going self reviews and evaluation.
His comments came in written response to a question on the matter by Onchan MHK Julie Edge.
