The Department of Home Affairs says it doesn't know how many foreign inmates are being held at Jurby's prison.
A Freedom of Information request asked about the number of foreign nationals remanded or serving sentences at the facility.
In its response, the department said it doesn't record the numbers, and so doesn't hold the data.
And it added although staff ask new inmates about their country of origin, their answer may not reflect their citizenship status.
