A driver has ran over and killed a Duck and her six ducklings.
The Manx Wild Bird Aid took to social media to share the news.
The charity says:
”Baby bird season got off to a sad start today when someone called to say that they’d seen a mother duck get hit and killed by a car on Glenfaba Road, and her ducklings were running around the road in a panic. Our volunteers rushed out to look for them and found the dead mother and 6 dead ducklings scattered across the road. They searched the hedgerows in the area and listened for ducklings calling, and were able to catch 6 surviving ducklings. They’re now safe with us and will be released when they grow up.
We are looking for volunteers to hand-rear ducklings for us. They’re adorable but extremely smelly and messy. They start off under a heat lamp or electric brooder, then you’ll need a safe outdoor space for them when they get older. Once they are fully feathered, can fly and look like adult ducks, they can be released. We can lend you everything you’ll need to look after them. If you’re interested, send us a message and we’ll get back to you within the next few days.”
