Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas says he doesn't know how much money the government has saved through early retirement and voluntary redundancy schemes.
This week in the House of Keys he faced two questions for written answer from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.
She wanted to know how many government workers had left under the two schemes in the last five years.
Both were designed to save taxpayers money by reducing the government's wage bill.
Mr Thomas said the information isn't stored centrally and so he hadn't been able to find out how many people have left.
He added that also meant it wasn't possible to say how much money had been saved under the schemes.
But he told Mrs Edge he'd try to collate the information and answer her questions by the end of this month.
